Sorry about that ... I hadn't intended to include the link. I edited it out.

They obviously don't have a "flare" for English!

I wondered if anyone else would notice that. I am a technical writer by trade, and it is almost impossible for me to turn off the little editor in my head. It's a curse, especially in these times when knowledge of English is in such steep decline. It makes me sad to see professional publications written so poorly.

Dan -

The "flare" - "flair" you don't see much and there are others in the same category. However, there are a few that have become pet peeves . . . . Some of the worst ones: than, then there, their, they're you're, your to, too, two using an apostrophe after a word followed by an "s" to indicate plural not possesive and there are othersI have made my share of mistakes, but I try to keep the easy ones to a minimum.

hang on a minute...................

Who said that English is the language of this great land?????

AMERICAN is what is spoken out here. I am English and people tell me I have an accent. NO!!!! If I spoke American, I would have an accent, I speak ENGLISH, YOU have the accent.

In regards to the "butchered" in the previous post, the American English is just that............

Don't take me serious please, Im just messing. When I do this lecture when someone tells me I have an accent, I get a giggle from recipient........hope you guys giggle and dont shoot me :-)

There are in excess of 400 distinct languages spoken or written in the United States, and Americanized English has embraced a part of each spoken/written language.

Remember - the words Geronimo, tsunami, barbecue and hasta la vista, baby undoubtedly were never spoken by his/her majesty - yet we use them everyday as if they are part of our language, and these and many, many more non-English words are!
