I picked up some Tulipwood turning blocks this week. Just could not wait--so today I made this Goblet for my wife. These small items are a real challenge to turn on a full size lathe--but it was fun.

Gary -

Very nice little goblet. The quarter for size reference is great.

That would be a challenge on any lathe for me. Nice work and nice piece of wood too.

Cute little goblet! Take a while to overindulge with that! :p

How did you hollow the inside of the goblet, small gouge or did you make something yourself?

Nice Little goblet there Gary. What size tools do you use to make these small ones?

Beautiful work & wood, Gary.

I've been dying to try making a few items like that;but.... if only we can find a way to ADD some hours to whatever days we want some shop time...

There is a real trick to hollowing the inside.
It's the first thing I do---so you have the mass of the blank.
When no one is around--
I punch the hole on the drill press using the correct size bit and never touch it again except to sand and finish it.
Since I am being real fancy about this---I hold the blank with a big pipe wrench.
So it doesn't spin around and bust your hand open.

I use the same tools that I would use on a big item.
