Another great call. I don't know where they all go but the critters better beware.

Great character!! I really like how the color of the ceramic compliments the wood--much more so than any of the other scratch surface choices. How does the sound compare? and does it need to be roughed up like other surfaces?

Ken, some really nice character to the oak!! I recall "Ol' Yeller" when Knight and Hale came out with it - I presume their Sla-Tek was ceramic. Sure makes a nice sound IMO.

Plays clean, doesnt require near the surface prep, usually none with most strikers.

John, it plays wet as well, might have to make a few carbon strikers to offer with these.

Wow - that's nice! I hope you have some bigger pieces of that wood as it would make a beautiful hollow form!

...might have to make a few carbon strikers to offer with these.Ken, my favorite striker is acrylic - seems to do well on about any surface. Not very unique, and certainly doesn't have that "handmade" look, but it works!

Ken, I just started making some of these calls. What do you use to treat the strikers?

You can use the same finish you use on the call itself. I normally make 2 piece strikers and will finish them with minwax antique oil, let cure, then a buff and wax. You just need to keep the finish off the tip, although with an open grained wood, MAO doesnt seem to bother the tip or the way it plays

Thanks Ken. I'm a big fan of MAO. I've used it on all my furniture projects. Time consuming but well worth the effort in the end. I wasn't sure if sealing the striker would adversely affect the sounds.
