I guess i'm hard headed. When the bark came off I should have just started with another rough out, but I just decided to keep plugging away for the practice.

I didnt have any real intentions or plans and left a foot on this one...which im not really a fan of but hey practice right:D This one will end here and be set on a shelf for me to gander at when im ready to finish another one out as a reminder of what I dont like about it. Infact, I think I may build a bigger shelf for this type of thing:eek::D

Great colors and I don't mind the foot for something different. If you are selling, someone won't mind it either. Some barks have a lot of character and I like to try and keep them, but when I lose a big chunk I just pull off the rest. I like the smooth/bald look just as well!

Haha Baxter, I tried pulling what was left off and it just laughed at me! I may re chuck it and see if I can turn it into something I like....probably a day when its raining and I dont have a thing to do outside!

Ken, some people want pretty and some want character.... and some don't know what they want till they see it. The wood is very interesting, so you should keep it comfortable till it finds someone who will love it. :)

Beautiful color, very nice bowl.

Ken, the wood makes this bowl a keeper!! Besides, I like a foot on a bowl - perhaps not quite this high, but it works OK. My daughter thinks a "footed" bowl is a fashion statement - all the nicer stores carry them!! So, there are those folks out there that like footed bowls - and, buy them! The absence of bark I think is a minimal issue here.

I like it very much. And I like the foot too.

Ken - I like it! If the foot is too big, turn it down a little. Why not burn the edge of the bowl? It would highlight that area, blend everything in and no one would notice - or care - if there was any bark on it!

Ken, I'm with Steve and John here. I would turn the foot down some, or take it off completely, burn the rim and call it done.

Ken,

I actually like the foot the way it is! You have a great form here, a very nicely turned NE bowl. The burning the edge idea is a good one I think. That figure in the wood really makes this one a keeper, IMO. I think a foot adds to a bowl form most of the time, however, there are exceptions, but I think it fits this particular piece well.

Ken I like the bowl. The wood is really nice. I agree I would cut the foot down some and burn the edge.

Nice piece and lots of suggestions to "practice" on. I tend to agree with trying to burn or use the bark there, or make it a "barkless" natural edge using a chisel and sanding if required to remove the remaining bark. The foot looks OK, but removing it using a jam chuck is another option and my preference. Be sure to show the result you go with.

Beautiful wood and a nice shape... What's not to like? Who cares about the bark? That stuff grows on trees.... Sheesh!
