Fred

The best I've seen. What is the color of the acrylic?

Great job Fred. I think what has sparked everyone's interest is that it looks flesh coloured, so either you have added colour or you have painted or it's the backdrop that makes it appear in colour. Definitely onto a winner there whichever way you did it, well done.

Frank,

I believe that's a combination of the background granite color and the very yellow tinge of the bulb.

It might be.....or Fred may have stumbled on the holy grail for laser engravers!

There is definitely something different going on here, Fred. There is no edge lighting, so you must have used a different technique than just clear acrylic - did you paint the back and edges? Or is that one of those Christmas light bulb night lights and not edgelit LED at all?

Intrigued, dee

Dee,

It looks like a standard piece of acrylic painted black on the back, then reverse engraved. I prefer that over front engraving as the acrylic gives a natural shine in the front.

I love the technique but can't help to think I wouldn't want him staring at me while I slept...

Yes, Dan, that's the standard way of doing it... but the edges and any engravings will light up. Here, Fred's edges are not lit. It looks backlit, since you see the stronger light right behind the mouth/nose area. Let's see if Fred will give it up!

cheers, dee

Tough image to see, but it looks pretty thin to me, and I see a small amount of edge lighting along the sides near the bottom (possibly from missing paint along the bare edge?). I've painted edges black before to cut down on any extraneous glow, but difficult to tell if that's what has been done here.

Nice "Thumbs Up" on this one.
