I am starting to look for finish that I can apply to the Maple veneer on my kitchen cabinets. I tried a brush on lacquer but this is way to yellow for the wife. She is wanting clear. Any Ideas? Also I want to be able to hand apply.

Minwax Polycrylic is a water-based very clear (non-amber or yellow) finish. It can take some patience to learn to apply it. I've been using some recently and the house is dry like the Sahara due to winter gas forced-air heat. So it dries REAL fast. You have to keep a wet edge, get good coverage, not work it too much (bubbles), etc.

I use a foam brush that I wet before use to help thin it a tiny amount. Sand with a worn very-fine sanding sponge between coats. I've gotten pretty good at it. I've seen a guy that uses it for finishing long boards (a type of skate board) that builds it to the point where it looks like epoxy. He said he uses thirty coats (I use three) and then he wet sands it.
