I needed a steady rest, and although there are some nice ones to buy out there, I didn't feel like spending the money or waiting to get one. So, this is what I came up with.

I made 4 wheel mounts, and drilled holes to accommodate using 3 or 4 wheels. It goes down to about 2 1/2 inches and at it's widest it's just under 16.

I made it so I can make easy changes to it as I go along. I haven't prettied it up yet (I may or may not) but it seems tight and solid.

Very nicely done. I've used the life out of mine, wouldn't know what to do with out it now. Sure is satisfying making and using your own tools.

Looks functional, John. Is that a little piece of duct tape peaking out from underneath? I thought I was the only one to use duct tape in construction applications.

Well done! I am sure it works just as well as a "fancy?" metal one.

Looking good and looks like it will do the job nicely.

Looks purty already John. Certainly not as purty as your bowls though! I can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve for it's first usage.

It looks really good John. I like the idea of holes for either 3 or 4 wheels. I see a modification coming to my steady rest :)
