A friend sent me this picture of his chair and asked if I would know how to fix it. I thought it best to refer to those with more knowledge than I. It appears to me that the crack in the chair is at the point of a finger joint. But besides from cutting and reglueing it, I really have no idea. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Clamp a L shaped wood fence to the broken area. Use the fence to support a plunge router. Use a 5/16 or 3/6 bit to cut a slot on either side of the damage. The depth of the slot should be about 3/4 the width of the hoop. Cut and fit a hardwood spline and glue it into the slot.
