Hi,

I've just received my Versalaser and need to find a 3" diameter "flexible, wire-reinforced, industrial grade rubber hose". I thought it'd be easy to find, but it's proving a challege. I think I found one that was suitable but the shortest length available was 25ft and I only need about 3 feet.

Any VLS owners out there that can share your source for the hose you're using? :)

Thanks!

Dave

Hi Dave,

Couple of options:

Use a 3" to 4" adapter, then get 4" hose instead.
The 4" hose will also cause less airflow restrictions.

Look (google) for:
Dust collector hose
Metal (aluminum) dryer vent hose (NOT foil/mylar/film/polyester)

Try:
A good local lumber/woodworking supply house
grainger.com
mcmaster.com

short term could you go to lowes or home depot and get som flexible metal dryer hose. Jus do mot use on suction side or it may collapse

Thanks! I should have mentioned that I already have some 4" ductwork in place and a 4" to 3" reducer. I've just not been able to find 3" hose that fits it. Lowes had a 3" dryer hose, but it did not fit the reducer and would have collasped anyway I bet. This hose will be on the suction side of the blower.

I can't help but wonder why ULS put a 3" port on this machine when 4" seems to be a more common size.

Hay Dave,
Try these:
http://www.pennstateind.com/store/dust-collection-hose.html

Try these guys and maybe you can get a 3ft sample
http://www.flexaust.com/

and my local vendor is
http://www.houstonhose.com/
and I think you can get cut to size but it costs A LOT MORE PER FOOT THIS WAY.

Hose used for sewer connections for RVs is nominally 3". You'd have to decide yourself if it is rugged enough for your application and if it matches your fittings.

Penn State Industries has good selection.

Don't know where you are but also look for industrial rubber suppliers. They typically have the heavy duty industrial hoses for CNC / automation venting applications.

I know for sure that grainger carries this hose from 1" up to 8" iirc
It may not be cheap though.

I very dimly remember (it was nearly six years ago) ordering the hose for mine from Sears...Mike Mackenzie gave me the part number, which I have long since lost. It's gray vinyl, spiral-wire-reinforced. I think it was a 10' chunk for about $15, still have most of it stuck up in the garage rafters. The clamps and 3"-to-4" adapter came from there too IIRC.

In any case, a quick google coughed up this: http://www.blastgateco.com/Flex-Hose.htm, couple bucks a foot, whatever diameter you need.

Dust Collection providers will be the best sources.

I would recommend:
www.oneida-air.com (http://www.oneida-air.com)
or
www.airhand.com (http://www.airhand.com)

The quality of the hose will be better than with Penn State. There is a difference.

Dust Collector Accessory Kit (http://www.harborfreight.com/dust-collector-accessory-kit-93601.html)...which appears to be for 4" hose, not 3".
