I ran across the website for Woodworkers Source and was curious if anyone has done any business with them? They're hardwood suppliers that ship direct. Their prices seem far lower than my local source. Here's the website:

http://www.woodworkerssource.com/index.php

Right now they have their "PRO Packs" of 4/4 red oak on sale for $337, which seemed like a pretty good deal.

Quantity: 100 board feet, and ships in approximately 5 packages by UPS.
Widths: 4''-10'' variety with rough edges. Straight line ripping on one edge is available as well (see below).
Lengths: Up to 8'
Grade: Select & Better.

I just wanted to check them out before I order. Anybody familiar with them?

I cut and pasted this from a post I made a week or so ago:

I live about 5 minutes away from their Tempe store and go in regularly so naturally have not used the internet.
In general I will say that their stocks of the more common domestic lumbers is nothing special and prices are a bit high. For these i often wind up going to Timber Woodworking Machinery's lumber yard in Mesa AZ although they don't stock anywhere near the variety of woods.
The more exotic woods at WWSource are generally of very good quality and priced accordingly. They have the only extensive selection of exotics in my part of the PHX valley.
They are decent people to deal with. It wouldn't surprise me if calling your order in to talk to someone would be the best way to go.

Thanks Paul,
It's good to hear from somebody that really knows them. I only have one real local source for decent hardwoods and they are running about 20% higher than the prices from Woodworkers Source. Thats why I wanted to check them out. They almost seemed too good to be true based on my local situation. Bonus: I don't have to go pick up the lumber.

I'd be shocked if you couldn't find lower prilces on domestic hardwood in Indiana or Michigan, but if you're looking for mail order I would suggest Badger Hardwoods in Wisconsin. The website is http://www.badgerwood.com. I typically drive up there, but shipping is probably most of his business. His prices are better than woodworker's source, and shipping from WI should be less expensive. I have some cheaper sources a little farther away, but the guy that owns/operates badger is great, and I've always gotten good lumber there.

I just ordered some poplar from CR Muterspaw http://www.crlumber.com their prices including shipping where cheaper than the wood workers source on smaller BF packages. I don't know what the freight charges for 100BF would be. https://www.crlumber.com/store/ro100bf.html but if it's less than 100$ then it would be cheaper. You can give them a call and get a quote.

I also liked that CR Muterspaw does not surface the wood, that is just my preference.

I am in LA, so they are closer to me than some of the other stores you mention. My local (hour drive) hardwood dealer is rather expensive. I have ordered several times from these guys. I usually pay for the specific sizes and on edge joining. I may order 3 boards at least 8" wide and 60" long, etc. There is an upcharge for specifying instead of just ordering 16 bf, etc. That way I can order less bf for a specific project. All wood has been surfaced and is straight. Dropped of at my door, all I have to do is unwrap and put it in my shop. When I factor in gas and my time, it is cheaper than my hardwood dealer. I also don't have to borrow a truck or squeeze it in my MDX.

You didn't mention it, but with a planer and a jointer you will be paying far less for rough sawn. How about http://www.frankmiller.com/ they are down in Union City.

Thanks Matthew, Tim, Jeremy, and Dan. Yeah, I do have a planer (DeWaly 735) but not a Jointer. I do, however, have a Router table with the Incra Super System so I can do reliable jointing up to about 2" thick. I'll check out these other places before I order.

If you are going mail order, consider https://www.niagaralumber.com I've had good luck with them. Just by way of comparison, 20 BF of 4/4 Cherry shipped to my door would be $127. It would be $170 from badgerwood.com, and apparently even more from woodworkerssource.com

Wow they are pretty reasonably priced, cheaper than my local store on some woods I'll have to try them out.

You might consider Wall Lumber in North Carolina. Their site shows 5/4 red oak at $2.95 (plus freight) for 100BF min. I used them once a few years ago with good results.

Ah. Excellent! Was about to start looking for a dealer of rough-cut lumber around central OH. (Not to mention good prices compared to the retail stores around Columbus.)

Check that item off the list.. thanks!
