Found some time to get back on calls as I needed a break from cutting tree's.

These two are Turkey Pots call made with Purpleheart, slate over glass with a Walnut and Purpleheart striker, and a Curly Maple and Hickory striker. MAO finish with buff but no wax.

This is a very basic Predator call made from Walnut with the same finish as above.

I love these calls you make, I want to try this myself pretty soon after I knock out a couple of things already on my to-do list.

I have got to try and make some of these. Ken where do you pick up the supplies for these, and does it make much difference between slate or other materials?

I use Brookside (search google for brookside engraving or game calls) for pretty much all of my slate and glass, He is now selling the ceramic surfaces as well as aluminum.

Whew!!! I thought you had permanently become a bowl turner, lost in the mire of mountains of bowl blanks!!!

Nice work, as always, Ken - and, the never disappointing quality pics!!

First time using it myself. Turned nice, sanded well and the sound is crisp. The top pot has a rasp to it that actually hurts my ears(my hearing is terrible and I geuss it falls in that range of decibles that just hits me) I have 3 basic strikers that I make, and a mid weight rounded tip really rocks both of these. I will be throwing an aluminum surface in yet another and imagine it will be one loud and raspy rascal!

What is the diameter of your calls Ken? Seems like I have had a lot of trouble finding any wood over about "3x"3 square and "18 lengths, it jumps from there to bowl size blanks where I buy my wood with very little in between.

These are 3.5 " pots. I have a local mill that sells boards of various types, most run around a 1.25 thick, 5 inches and wider and up to 12 foot in length. I just cut out 4x4" blanks and get to turning. I bought 8' of curly cherry, 3 ft of morado, and 6 foot of Purpleheart all for $30. I havent looked to see how that stacks up to other places but it seems fair.
