I got this chunk of beautiful wood from Curt Fuller in a trade we did a while back - thanks Curt! I wish I'd have been more creative, but I wasn't and ended up with this bowl. It is 8-1/2" wide and about 5" tall.

I like it Mark! Excellent wood! Really like the contrast between the smooth walls of the bowl and the natural edge! Thanks for sharing!

That is so cool, looking at the top picture reminds me of the rim of a volcano, I love it!

Mark, isn't that some awesome wood!! Curt was kind enough to gift me a chunk of that stuff, and it was a real pleasure to turn.

You did a great job with this - very smooth lines! But, we would expect nonething less from the NE King!! Those rays really give this bowl some lift - almost expect it to levitate.

That is great! The picture looking down into the bowl makes me think of a boiling cauldron.

Mark I like the bowl a lot. All I can see with that rim is the "teeth" on it, makes me cringe. Incredible eyes in the bowl nice job.

I will second the volacno and boiling cauldron impression. My first thought as well! Thanks for sharing. Neat piece!

What could be better than an elegantly &, perfectly turned & finished bowl? I'd be pleased as puch to have turned this.

Looks like a great piece to me. Call it a Calabash instead of a bowl and you can double/triple the price.:D

Wow Mark! That is likely as good a bowl form that could have been made from that wood blank. A dead on execution of that form.......just so well done!

Great looking wood! I like the simplicity of the form, and that natural edge is fantastic. Nicely done.

What did you use for a finish ?

Dick, I sealed it first with lacquer sanding sealer and then used antique oil in a rubbed-in-wiped-off application.

Thanks all for the comments.

That's awesome. The vertical walls are a perfect canvas to display a very special piece of wood. The minimal finish is also a great decision. It all comes together to make a real keeper. It will be hard to top this one.

I have to echo what Michelle has said. I wish I knew how to make that wood look that good. That's a beauty Mark!
