I've a request to make a coffin for an animal. Never having paid much attention to specifics, I was curious if there is a standard to the design and shape. Old times, the coffins were a rectangular box. New times dictate a more faceted shape.

What say you?

Thanks,
Burt

I've think that the faceted shape of coffins makes them somewhat like human bodies -- wider at the shoulders, narrower at the head and feet. So if a human coffin is shaped like a human, wouldn't a coffin for an animal shaped like that animal? A coffin for a snake could be looong and narrow. One for a dog would have a torso, legs, and a head. Think animal crackers!

A buddy of mine just made one for his Lab and it was trunk shaped. So it depends on the critter, I guess.

Yikes, good thing you don't have to make one for that octopus that predicted the outcome of those world soccer matches. Now that would be a challenge!

Here's a site that shows how to measure the animal for the correct casket size. It also shows a pet casket design. I don't think there is a standard design for pets.

A Google search for "Animal Coffin" brings up a lot of pictures. Maybe you can get some ideas from them.
