I was thinking this was Mulberry until I did a search here and reviewed some other discussions leading me to reconsider as maybe Box Elder. Need some help here.

I cut some limbs from a tree in my mother-in-law's yard and thought after checking the leaves in a tree book that it was a Mulberry but I don't remember ever seeing any kind of berries on it.

For the most part I like turning it, one of these pieces was real pithy, so I may have to go back do some more "trimming". Being a good son-in-law and all...

Thanks

Bill,
Strange as it may seem I also believe it is Box Elder I was given some from a street tree planted in Canberra and I do know Mulberry well, Mulberry tends to stripes and yellow also beaut reflectance.
Regards Peter.

Thanks guys. I've already told my wife we may have to go back and trim that tree some more. Her 91 year old mother would be fine with any
"trimming" I did on it.

Box Elder! A great wood to turn, and I wish I had some!

Looks like rotten Manitoba Maple to me, AKA Acer Negundo, that red will mostly disappear, but in the meantime ENJOY, nice enough wood to turn and not finicky to dry.

Of course Leo "forgot" to mention that Acer Negudo is Box elder!

Nice little Box Elder bowl! If you have to trim that tree again - be sure to check for any burls! Box Elder burls can be amazing!
