I have done bowls with voids but not the actual bark on the rim. I lost a couple of the pieces of bark but for the most part it turned out pretty well. It measures 4 1/4" by 4 1/4" and it has a rather small foot. I didn't manage to get the sides even but like I said it is my first. The wood is Dogwood and has a spray lacquer finish. By the way this is one of my projects from the snow/ ice storm. It is Georgia and we just shut the state down for snow.

I like it, Russell. The small foot seems to fit it well, and your artistic intentions of offsetting the sides is a neat idea;). Nice finish also, and thanks for posting.

I like it. Nice contrast of colors between the bark and the wood and a good job of saving the bark.

That a beautiful contrast from the bark to the bowl wood. It also is a deep bowl. Not easy to do a natural edge semi closed, deep form. Great job and I hope the sun starts to melt things down there, or if it doesn't maybe you can get one more day in of turning.

Nice job. Love the wood color. I've turned smaller pieces of dogwood (spindle turnings) and I have never encountered that color, it's usually much paler, whiter.

Thanks for all the comments. I will agree it is a unusual color. I was given the blank by a friend that said it was in a shop for 6 years before being cut up the week after Christmas. I don't know if that would exsplain it or not. Russell

Nice job... That's not an easy shape for me, but you've done a wonderful job with this one.

Amazing color. Looks like pink ivory. Those deep straight sided bowls are not easy. Nice going.

Nice job and pretty color. Turned a mallet out of dogwood quite a while ago but have always wanted to do something else.

Very nice NE bowl. Looks like this should be the first of many more to come.

Russell - like many others here the color is striking but I find it is the form that really grabbed my attention! Very nice work! Hope it snows some more for you so you can continue turning!
