I was in the local Woodcraft store yesterday and saw a very nice 1X6X10' piece of Redheart. Had a nice grain pattern and I thought about it for a while.

Figured if I bought it I would find something to do with it and if I didn't buy it and then found something to do with it, it would be gone.

At any rate, does the stuff hold it's color or will I just have another brown board in a few months?

Depends on whether it is redheart of chakte kok. Redheart browns if not UV protected. With UV protection it stays red a little longer. Chakte kok, another red wood and often mistaken for redheart stays red much better but all woods eventually brown out...

Mac,

It will turn brown, similar to purpleheart. http://www.hibdonhardwood.com/speciesinfo/redheart.asp (http://hibdonhardwood.com/speciesingo/redheart.asp)

Hi Keith,

The link didn't work.

Hi All,

Is this wood also called "Bloodwood" or is it different?
What UV protector is best?

My uncle wants to make an intarsia rose and wants me to get him some nice "red" wood as he is color blind. I would hate to see him drop the $$$ for an exotic and see it lose its color in a short time.

Thanks
