Here is my first hollow form thanks to Jeff Nicols guidance.
I got this piece of oak burl from Jeff and used the center rest and hollowing tool that I made from his instructions.
I think I'll use a softer wood for the next one as this was pretty rough going,my arm hurt for days!:D

Jeff - Congrats! Nice looking vase! Really like the grain on this! I do understand about being sore after hollowing by hand! Was the main reason I moved up to a captured system!
Hope you recover soon! Looking forward to seeing HF #2!

Congrats on completing your virgin voyage into hollowing. I'm looking forward to seeing where your muse takes you.

Jeff, I know that old oak burl is hard as a rock! The pieces I have turned out of it have some wonderful grain in it too!
Keep on turning,
Jeff

Congrats on your first. I haven't summoned up the courage to try a HF on dry oak!:)

Jeff, you deserve a medal for tackling this piece without a hollowing system!! That had to have beat you up pretty badly. But, you did well! It is all downhill from here.

Well done Jeff. I am not sure I would have tackled dry oak either.

Nice job! What are the dimensions? It's a beautiful chunk of oak - I'm sure you earned your soreness.:D
Keep em coming!

The dimensions are 3 1/4" X 6 1/2" and 1/4" thick.I did the outside and part of the inside with a 5/8 bowl gouge I bought from Lyle Jamieson. And I finished the inside with Nicols drill bit hollowing tool.
My son said "cool cup dad"and I said "it's a VOZ son".It was finished with a wet sanded mixture of BLO,shellac and denatured alcohol. Thanks for the encouragement.
