Looking for comments from those that use the Sorby Micro Modular tools. The ones with the small red alluminum handle. I am thinking of getting a set or two of them for making small bird houses and stuff. Thanks, Jack.

Jack I have that and like them for mini turnings. Obviously you can't go too deep with them. I tried sharpening them as suggested but did not seriously sit down with a wet diamond hone. I got very frustrated and took them to the grinding wheel set for my other cutters. Works like a champ! So sharp they are very cool.

They are very sturdy and pretty nice to use. But you will need to ease the edges on them or they will chew your tool rest to bits. (Unless you are one of the lucky ones with hardened steel tool rests)

Fest a lot better to me after "softening" the knurling on the handle with sandpaper. Otherwise, work really well for small work.

I wrote review of the Spindle set in the Articles section. I even have video of me turning a little peg so you get to see what the tool changes are like. I've very happy with mine. I've turned a number of pencils since I got it and love it.

I own the hollowing set and find the round point (straight blade) and curved blade scrapers work very well. I don't have enough experience with the boring blade to comment on how well it works.

I use the spindle set for pens etc and the 2 hollowing tools for ornaments and miniatures. They work great IMO.

Thanks for the replies. Guess I will pick up a set and give them a try. Hey that rhymes, time to say BYE! Jack.
