A few weeks ago I did a trade with a turner from northern Az. He took home some mesquite and about an 80 lb chunk od af sumac, and I took home some az walnut, box elder, willow, hackberry, some emory oak and a couple of burls.
So when I got home from work today I decided it was a good time to start in on some of it, so I started with the walnut.
I was just going to rough turn it and call it an early night, but once I got into it I just couldn't stop until it was done (at 11:00pm) :o
These are after wet sanding with DO, no other finish yet. Took the pics with my cell phone and the colors off a bit because of the shop lighting (the desk lamp by the lathe gave it a yellowish cast and when I pointed it away from the desk lamp there wasn't quite enough light. I'll do better pics in the photo tent when the finish is done. The pics really don't do it justice.
Thanks Rob, I'll be looking for more of that walnut when I get more mesquite in!
