This time of year things really slow down at work. If at this time I can pry 500 dollars out of my pocket here are my two current possibilities.

Or this one.

Rockwell model 13.
Thoughs and comparisons? Is the price okay?

Both look great for the price. Is the bottom one also 500? It looks new.

Yes, both machines are listed for 500 dollars.

That same exact picture for the Model 13 comes up on OWWM, last updated 2/22/2005 & acquired in Washington state. Seems a little fishy to me, unless it's been bought and sold since then and travel 1000 miles.

I'd probably be all over that new looking Model 13 if were a bit closer.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. He didn't have a picture of his unit. He emailed this picture stating that this represented his machine closely. I live in Pueblo, Colorado. This machine is on craigslist in Broomfield, Colorado. Anybody have any idea how heavy this machine is? Can two burrly guys get this thing into the back of a Ranger?

No comment on selection, but I bet 2 guys could move either one. No problem.

I gracefully slid a near 500 lbs RAS out of my F250 just the other day. I'm no where close to burly... but I can hold my own.

My vote is for the older one. All cast iron. Search OWWM.org with the model number and get more info.

Make sure that they are single phase machines. The 13" was available in either, while most likely the 20" was only available in three phase. A replacement motor for the 13" will set you back around $700. The 13" weighs close to 1000 pounds. The 20' will be closer to one ton. A motor hoist is the tool of choice for lifting either. I have a Delta 15" which I unloaded by myself, but my Rockwell 13" required the use of a motor hoist. Check to see if seller has extra cutter head for the 13", as many were sold that way.

I have never owned a planer. Any tips on how to inspect a used machine?
