That's a heck of a Christmas present! I have handle envy.

Harry your going to love his tools! Great looking set! Doug does it right with the handles, they still make me smile everytime I see mine! This thread reminds me I need to give Doug a call again.

Great looking bandsaw! Yeah, starting it without the blade tension on is a mistake you will only make once... don't ask me how I know this lol. Thank goodness I only kinked a cheapie 1/4" blade and not my resaw King!

Congrats. They are great tools.

Question - did you make the round skew from one of the 3/8" blanks Doug offers, or is that something else? Thanks.

Those look like great tools, maybe some of those will be in my future someday.

I got that from Doug when he stile sold them, but that is exactly what it is 3/8 round ground to a skew.

From your post I get that you release the tension after using your bandsaw. I'm curious as to why you do that. I've had my present BS for about 11 years and have never released the tension except to change the blade. The saw runs fine and the tires are in good shape.

Thank you. I was debating picking one of those blanks up from him and making one myself.

NObody's that nice-what's your real secret? Congrats-can't beat Thompson's tools. BTW, I agree with Wally-I never detension my bandsaw and have not experienced a problem-3 bandsaws over about a 20 year period.

The reason I release the tension is your well start to loose tension in the spring,if you put a tension reader on your spring you'll see what I mean.20 years jet engine
and aircraft mechanic taught me not to over stress springs. If you would do a flutter test on your blade you will probably see that your blade will not be tensioned at the size it is but for a little bigger blade. So IMHO I'll release the tension.
