Although I don't often need a thickness planer, I've always wanted one for those times when I do. I had the occasion to go to a local pawn shop today to pick up a purchase made by my brother (he doesn't have a truck) and saw the Delta TP305 sitting on the shelf. I looked it over closely as it looked brand new...not a scratch on it, and priced at $150. I had the attendant plug it in & it sounded great......Long story short, I bought it.
My question is: Even though its a portable, and even though its only a 2-blade configuration, was it a good purchase for the price and for my occasional use?

Yes, it's not top of the line but it will do the job.

I helped a friend with his. The only downside I could see was it did snipe. There are things you can do to minimize the snipe like keeping up pressure on the stock when starting and ending or feeding scrap before and after. I had a Delta 22-580 and it wouldn't snipe noticeably, even without the head lock engaged. But for occasional use the TP305 should be fine.
