I was just down at Lowe's and noticed the Porter Cable variable speed 8" grinder. How does this compare to the Delta 8" besides being $40 cheaper?

I believe Delta and Porter Cable are now one and the same. Probably the same grinder with different logo decals.

Looks like a pretty good deal at Lowes though.

I've seen the Porter Gable as cheap as $113 at Lowes. I have never seen the Delta anywhere close. I would have to say that it can't be the same quality. Somewhere they cut some corners. The sure look a like, except for the color of the knobs on the front.

I do notice that the left hand tool rest on the Porter Cable has a 45 degree groove which I can only assume is for steadying a chisel handle or something like that and making it easier to maintain the 45 degree angle. It also only slows down to 2000 rpm vs the Delta which gets down to around 1725 rpms.

The tool rest groove is supposed to be for sharpening drill bits (at least it is on my Delta ... it's not 45 degrees).

I haven't looked too closely, but the new PC grinder I saw at Lowes was definitely a different model from the previous Delta models. Not having used one, I have no idea how good/bad it is. But the previous Delta model was pretty awful, so this one could easily be better.
