Found this piece of maple in the closeout bin and thought it looked like it had potential. It was thin, so decided to try my first shallow type bowl. (or is this considered a platter??)

About 9" diameter, finished with WOP and beall buff. This was my first WOP experiment, and bought the beall buff system just yesterday so I could finish this one up (knowing I'll need it in the future anyway). I'm pretty happy with it, though there are a few small spots that almost look like nicks in the finish, but I think it's just tearout that I didn't get all the way taken out. Of course they didn't show up until I buffed it.

C&C more than welcome, thanks for looking!

Dan, this is your best yet!! Very nice work, and fantastic wood. Great bargain find. BTW, my understanding is that a platter has a much wider foot - usually more than the 1/3 we use as the max for bowls. So, I guess this is technically a bowl.

Great "Bowl" Dan...at least that's what I want to call it;). Nice rim detail and the foot is great. I need to lay my hands on a good source for that stuff.

Everyone has already given you an accurate opinion on this one, but just in case you don't believe it yet...
This is a GREAT bargain bin find worked as well as any of us could (IMO)

And I'm sure I won't be the last to tell you so.

Really nice wood and keeping the form simple only enhances that beautiful grain. The WOP really made the figure pop!!

Thanks so much for all the kind words everyone! This forum sure knows how to make a guy feel good! :o I have to admit, when I started turning this one, I was very pleasantly surprised with the figure.

I'm getting sucked in deeper and deeper...... :D
