- golf balls are designed to travel through air
- the bounding box of a tree is mostly filled with air
- experience demonstrates it's impossible for a golf ball to pass through a tree

conclusion: it's impossible for golf balls to pass through air

Thank God golf season is finally over. It's finally time for "embarrass myself skiing" season.

I once heard that a burl on a tree is caused by some sort of injury the tree experienced years ago. If this is the case, I am responsible for making many a future wood turner very very happy :D
