My wife's iPad has Safari on it and when I'm using gmail on it and want to see a video that was originally done with Windows Media Player I get a error saying Quicktime can play this blah, blah, blah. What would I need to do to get it to play them? I wanted to install Firefox but it wants me to sync it to my PC (no Macpro of my own) and couldn't figure out how to do this. My son does have a Macpro and when he uses gmail with Safari he can't see any images that are imbedded images (jpeg) in a email but they show up fine in gmail on my HP Laptop.

I'm not a Mac person but VLC has a reputation for playing about any video or audio format. I don't know how VLC behaves with Safari, it works with FireFox on PC's in Windows & Linux.

VLC works just fine with Safari. Actually though, Safari is out of the equation once the download starts.
VLC will store the video in the User/Dowload folder,a nd keep a record of it in the Download manager, and the VLC Dowload history.
To clear a video off your computer with VLC is a little cumbersome.
VLC, Quicktime, Flash and Real Player. Between them they should play just about anything.

The iPad doesn't have any support built-in to play WMV files. There might be an app that will play them but I don't know of any. This is not an issue with the web browser.
With the MacPro, try using Firefox.

Sorry led you down the wrong path...my link is only for Mac's not ipad's...I did a search on line for "ipad and wmv" and found a few converters...give that a try.
