Hi Eveyone..

My wife's Dad passed and the attached pic is the best picture we have to do a memorial (I use the glowboards from Jim Good and engrave in the acrylic). The pic was stuck to the glass in the picture frame, so I had to scan the picture and the glass. I'm looking for anyone who can "fix" this picture or point me in the right direction on fixing it.

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin:
That appears to be a fairly easy fix. Photoshop or Corel Photopaint clone tool would do most of the job. Would need the high resolution photo though. Be glad to help you if you can e-mail it to me. lbratton@centurylink.net

Kevin

this is a few minutes work in PhotoPaint. Sorry I don't have more time but a higher res image would help everybody.

Scan the photo again, larger this time, then zip it up and post the zipped file. It can be much bigger than you post the way that you did.

A drawn image is also an alternative which might float your boat.

Both pieces are very impressive. I especially like your drawing. How did you do that?

That drawn image is brilliant Frank. You just have to share the information on how you did this (please).

Paul.

Frank -

As I said before THANKS.. but I need more help. I showed your drawing to the wife and she melted.. so using anything but your drawing isn't an option. When I run the tiff through ULS 1 Touch software I get the result showed in 1.jpg, so I take this pic into photoshop.. convert it to grayscale and save it.. run it back into 1 Touch and get the result in 2.jpg. Any ideals of how I fix this to engrave on Acrylic?

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin:
Is the acrylic black? If so, the background needs to be changed to black and then the whole image inverted. You didn't indicate what substrate you were using, so Frank could only assume what it was. The drawing is magnificent. Very cool.

Here's the original zipped in this file. If you have further problems with it you will have to email me and I'll see what I can do. Sorry I signed this when I did it but if you want to remove it feel free.

Kevin, no need to run Frank's "drawing" through 1-touch. Just engrave it. 1-touch will probably do more damage than good. It's essentially already been processed by the method he uses. I engraved a sample of one of Frank's pieces he sent me on a piece of leather that sits on my desk. It will engrave beautifully as it is.

I would also suggest that you consider more substrates and methods than just lasering acrylic. I've seen excellent results with laser sublimation on brushed aluminum--both gold and silver. The MetalPhoto process. Lasering on alumamark. Print on parchment or similar artists paper then framed with an appropriate engraved text, etc.

Kevin,

For future reference...

You might try low and slow heat to get photos to unstick from substrates.

It's a slow process, and you don't want to overheat or pull on the photos when doing so, let it come loose on it's own. You may get some curl/warp, but you can deal with that once removed.

Thanks everyone for your help and interest in this project... I'm off work tomorrow and hopefully I'll have a little time to play around and learn a few things.. It's great to have so many folks willing to extend their knowledge and skills to help others out. Thanks again to everyone, especially you Frank. :)
