Which 12" compound miter saw would you recommend. No slider.,just a 12" compound miter.I've looked at several but keep comming back to the "Ridgid". It has a Lifetime warranty. What is your opinion?

Bosch has a new designed 12 inch coming out in 2011 (12" Axial-glide Mitersaw # GCM12SD) maybe worth looking at.

I am very pleased with the 6955-20 slider I have had for the last 6 months. I can't say enough about how excellent the digital angle read out to a tenth of a degree is.
I paid 399 shipped for a refurbished unit.

Any comments on the Hatachi brand miter saw?

Get the Bosch. I've loved mine from the day I got it 12 years ago. Rigid saws suck.

I have no complaints about my Dewalt. It is not a sliding but she has always been dead on. Just plan on getting an 80 tooth thin kerf finish blade.

I am quite happy with my 12" Rigid Single Bevel CMS for which I paid $199. I could NOT see paying $299 for the same one from HD. For that kind of money I would get the Bosch 3912. I have the 10" version, which is a very good saw. Or the Makita LS1221. I have a Makita 12" Sliding Double CMS, which I am going to get rid of due to dust collection issues. The Bosch 3912 or Makita LS1221 could have been had yesterday at $250-260, today at $340-360. There will be other sales if you have patience. Lately, most sellers are getting desperate. At a recent Bosch event, the much awaited Glide Saw SCMS was not flying out the door at $588 - or is it actually a SCMS?

Hitachi has headed for the low end, particularly the green stuff. There stuff is decent at the $150 price point for a 12" CMS. The only remaining "good" Hitachi seems to be the 15" loved by framers.

Bear in mind much of this changes when you start talking about SLIDING DOUBLE CMS.
