I just finished up the sanding and finishing this week so they're officially Christmas gifts now.

You can catch all the details at my blog (Link in my profile.)

Merry Christmas everyone!

Beautiful work. Just our of curiosity, do you use a lock miter bit for your miter joints?

Thanks CW. No lock miters, just a simple miter joint. The bottom is glued in for extra strength. The plans called for some corner splines, and I was going to do them with Walnut, but then decided that it might look too "busy" with the Zebrawood grain.

I really enjoyed making these, so I think I'll be making more boxes in the future.

I really enjoy the way zebrawood looks finished. It doesn't cut very smooth but when sanded is very nice. I used it in a cutting board, but am considering making a box out of it as well. Are the lids pressed on or are they hinged? And what woods are used in those lids?

Hey Alexei,

Sorry I missed replying! These are just lift lids, no hinges. They do have a snug fit so that they don't rattle around though. These lids are Walnut and Padauk.

You're right about the finish. Zebrawood really pops when you apply the finish.
