I just finished a rocking horse as a Christmas present for my 11 month old granddaughter. The design was cribbed from a horse LOML bought at a craft show almost 30 years ago. I used ash rather than the pine used for the original and tweaked the design a bit. The mane is manila rope that I glued and "unbraided". The eyes are marbles. The finish is 7 coats of the dreaded wiping poly over danish oil. I thought the poly would hold up better to the anticipated abuse. I was going to put a satin on as the finish coat but LOML liked the gloss and thought Karinna would like a shiney new toy.

That's really great! The horse seems to have a lot of personality, too...I like that. :)
