Just in the past week or so, I saw a very nice miniature birdhouse stand that would hold multiple birdhouses for craftshows. I liked it so well I sketched out an idea I had that would make assembly/disassembly much easier.

Now I want to go back and look at the picture, I forget where I saw the silly thing...:o

Maybe you all saw it too, and can help me find it?

It's similar to Maria's stand she showed us here:

I thought perhaps I saw it here on Sawmill Creek, but then it could have been at the "Shows and Marketing" forum or the "Other things we make" over on International Association of Penturners website....

I know it was just a week or so ago though...

No, it was larger than that, and very similar to Maria's stand. It had a wood base and a bundle of upright brass colored hanger rods, with two tightly wound wraps of brass round the bundle. There was one at the base and one about midway up to hold the bundle together. It would easily hold 8-10 birdhouses.
I beleive it was made so that it could be taken apart easily and transported...

Jim,
I made mine pretty simply. Just got 1/16 brass rod (Ace called that section Piano wire) from the hardware store, turned a round base, and drilled 8 holes (didn't even index, just by eye). Cut the rod long enough to bend with the weight and wrapped another piece around the bundle that could slide up or down as a tensioner. I glued them in place because they tended to rotate. You could, I suppose, have a separate piece that held the rods that inserted into a hole in the base. I would also recommend a slightly thicker wire.

If you do the one where it is glued to the finger, you could hold 10 BH's at once and very cheap to make!

Greg,

Nope not that one. That's a decent stand though. Thanks for digging it up.

Gary,
Not that one either. That's a nifty idea though, thanks for finding it. Might have to try it out.

Maria,
Is your idea original, or did you see it somewhere else first?

Jim, the idea was based on many, but probably this one, or something like it, played a big role. 174452

I flipped through the google image results for ornament tree, holder, stand etc.

Paul, your suggestion is cheap, but it's a b_ _ch to make change ;)

Maria,

That's very close to what I saw. What I saw actually had two separate wraps around the main "trunk"- if I remember correctly. And I do think it had that square base too.

Well, ya'll have come up with some real nice display stands. Lots of great ideas... Thanks a bunch!

What I had made in the past had a wood base on a lazy susan and put a rod down the middle and a round
wood disk with coffee cup hooks to hang items. It was three layers each one getting smaller.
spacer between layers was a turned oak piece with hole in middle. Sorry no pics
it is packed away since craft shows are a thing of the past.

This is a display I put together for a local art gallery for their holiday sale. I found the tree at Yankee Candle in an after Halloween sale. It will hold about 20 ornaments before it gets crowded. I think it would work great for the birdhouse ornaments also. I plan on adding a wooden base to it with carved roots sometime next year.
