called a 3-4-5. While I've used this tool to layout retaining walls and such, I'm sure that some woodworkers out there also know about this "tool". Name a few uses for this "layout" tool. Remember, sometimes it is just a matter of "scale".:D

Just a simple way to make things square, is all. Measure 3( inches, feet yards) one way, measure 4( inches feet yards) the other way. A diagonal line will (should be) 5 (whatever) IF the frist two are 90 degrees to each other. As in 6" by 8", means a line of 10" for square. Or 60' by 80', the line will be 100'. Simple math for a corner, is all it is. Easy enough?

Funny, I just watched a murder mystery last night with the Pythagorean Theorem playing a pivotal role ;-)
