Man, I've seen plenty of pictures of George's work here on the creek, but in the last couple of days, I was watching a few episodes of the Woodwright's Shop online and got to see some more of his work.

The guys were cutting veneer with a beaut of a saw that George made, and then drawing an ellipse with a device I had never before seen that George had also crafted. It was magnificently gorgeous, and the action on it looked amazingly smooth. It made me wish I had one (not that the saw didn't have a similar effect).

Anyway, I just wanted to say that your work is inspiring, George.

For those interested in seeing, you will find the saw in this episode (http://www.pbs.org/woodwrightsshop/video/2800/2810.html), and the elliptical gadget here (http://www.pbs.org/woodwrightsshop/video/2800/2811.html).

George posted some photos of the ellipsograph in this thread (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?150742-The-oval-drawing-attachment-I-made-with-my-journeyman.).

That was a beautiful saw George. I would love to have the skill behind it :-)

The Ellipsograph currently resides in the Cabinet Maker's Shop in Williamsburg. If you asked to see it,I'm sure they'd show it to you. Probably by now the brass would not be polished, and it would be all dusty, but it should still work just fine. They only ever used it to draw the ellipses on the tool chest they were making a copy of.

The saw(s) will still be there, too. I made Marcus a special crosscut saw only .030" thick, for sawing harpsichord keys apart. It was thin, and flexible, and a special purpose saw.

Glad you enjoyed it!!:)

I just watched the video of that ellipsograph in action and am shocked at how smoothly it operates on just the x and y axis. One would not think that would be so. Just brilliant George and agree that it is such a treat to have you're knowledge and experience on this forum. Such an inspiration.
