A good friend is a talented weaver and has been wanting to find a project were we could combine talents (I use the term loosely in my case). Anyway he saw some Xmas bulbs/ornements with metals ends and wondered if I could turn them from wood. The first two that we have completed are in the attached photos. The turning is probably 1/3 and the weaving at least 2/3 as far as time goes. I turned the ends from Maple and they have a coat of walnut Danish oil on them.

My lathe is indexed so the holes are at 15 degrees for the 'stakes'.

Definitely fine work, very good looking. Like the one with the finial better, looks more "finished".

I think the two of you might have something there. I like the combination. Keep it up.

Randy, that does make for an interesting collaboration! I would imagine doing the basket weaving on such a small object, and without access to the interior, is a real feat!

Those are cool! I like the colors and the different textures involved....
