Has anyone laser engraved a Parkerized weapon? I received a request to do a Colt 1911 for a retiring officer. I thought I'd throw this question out to the Forum. We've done other finishes but this is one type we haven't done.

Do a search... several posts on the subject, including settings and pictures.

I did a search and did not find the answer I was searching for. I was hoping for an answer from someone who had actually done one and had more information than a dismissive comment.

I did an AR-15 about a week ago, It turned out great (sorry i didn't get any photos) I used 75 speed and 80 power.

Thanks for the input Bob. I'll give those settings a try. How much contrast did you end up with?

The art work was line art. It came out great, the lines were a bright silver.

Just an FYI - most AR's are anodized aluminum so you won't get the same results that a parkerized piece will get. I have lasered parkerized pieces and the results seemed to depend on two things - the quality of the parkerizing and the finish of the metal underneath. All of the results were acceptable to my customer but some looked better than others.

Thanks for the input Gary. I've decided to remove the grips and do a test in an inconspicuous spot.
