Here's a few birdhouse ornaments I've been making. There quick to turn out and fun to make.

The first one has a walnut top and maple bottom.

second is an apple top and cherry bottom

The third one has a cherry top, mahogany body, with an ebony tip. the ebony started out as a finial that the just one more little cut ended up with a design change.

Those are really nice! I've tried making a couple and can't seem to get the dimensions down correctly. Mine all look like blobs. I'll study yours to see if I can improve on mine

Thanks for sharing

+1 on what Scott said. They are great looking especially the first one. What size pieces of wood are you starting with and what are your final dimensions? Somebody will be very happy with those.

Greg,

For the bottom I try to start with a piece of wood that's 2" square. I hollow first using a 1 1/8 forstner bit. I turn it pretty thin, they end up being about 1 1/4. The length depends on if I'm planning on turning a finial. If I am the size is usually 3-4 inches. The tops are around 2.5 square and around 2 - 3 inches long. The total length ends up being around 4 inches.

Nice work on all the ornaments John! They are fun, quick to make and you get to change the design with each turning! Enjoy!
