This is from some Maple I cut last year and allowed to Spalt. The coloring throughout the wood is excellent.

No, I use Echo inserts. I have some health issues that keep me from working as close to a saw blade as needed to cut the inserts

Nice call out of some pretty wood! Spalted maple was the first thing I turned a bowl out of. Still one of my favorites!

I have quite a few rough out bowls done from this same piece of maple. Did you get a chunk of it when you were here?

Ken,

That is a great looking call and your spalting worked well. In addition, your photograpy is excellent. I need to come over to WV and discuss turning calls with you. I have several friends and relatives that are avid hunters and they have been asking me for calls. I have yet to try to turn one.

I didn't bother to get any maple Ken. It is one wood that I have an abundance of both here and in Maine. Have quite a few roughouts from both places done and more dead trees I could cut up.
