Red Gum Burl with a blackwood pedestal. (thanks John K. for the burl)

173583

173585

173587

But other than.
-the burl got a little crack in it
-the bottom of the burl should of had more taper
-if the pedestal top was a bit wider and the base a bit wider
-the bottom of the stem a little narrower and embellishment a tad smaller

I would of been real happy with this one....
Onward Ho!

Hope everyone got a little shop time this weekend.

I am sure it would look good if I could see it!

I see it just fine. It looks very nice, I agree about the larger base. Overall a very nice goblet.

Good looking goblet. About the only thing I would have did different was a slightly bigger base where the vase and pedestal meet.

Very nice, how the heck do you chuck something like this up?

Thanks Ray.
To start all one does is turn it like a spindle. Burl cap towards the headstock.
After the outside is shaped a tenon is made so it can be mounted on a chuck.

Beautiful Gary!! Not so much a wider base, but more taper on the cup maybe...just my .29 worth...I really like it!

Very nice! I don't know why John passes on those beautiful Aussie burls, but his loss was your gain.

Gary, the practice sessions are paying off big time!! I think you are making some major headway with this thing. Beautiful wood - I knew you would put these things to good use!

So, when does the next one start? I know you have a box full of those Aussies!!:D

Thanks John. I think I've finally figured out what to do with some of those burls you sent me....
There should be a few more of these goblets come of my lathe in the next while.

Like Jim said, perhaps a bit more taper in the goblet plus the embellishment in the middle is to prominent as it draws attention from the beautiful goblet above. Very fine work here and the detail appears to be flawless.
