I hardly ever post projects, but this one is just so cute I had to. Last night I went to a Christmas party. The host had a young son, and I turned him a top out of olivewood just for fun. One of our other friends saw it and said, "Hey, can you make one for my daughter? How much?". I said, "Sure...I'll do it for fun, nevermind. What kind of wood would you like?". She said, "Uhm, can you make it pink?".

Uh, no I can't. LOL. I told her I'd get as close as I can.

And then I run across this piece of pink ivory at Woodcraft this morning...

Behold. The pink, spinny top thingy for my friend Sarah.

I never would have guessed I'd find pink wood. Meh...who needs stain?

LOL. A couple more glasses of wine and pink elephants will fit right in.

cool,

I noticed the bahama blue granite, rare stuff around here, first time I have seen it anywhere except in my kitchen and I inspect houses for a living.

The point is recessed in a little hollow under the "skirt", so when it's spinning it looks like it's floating.

Not very big. I forget now but it's probably about 1 1/4" in diameter. I believe it was turned from a 1.5" square. Basically, I made it as big as I possibly could out of the biggest piece of pink ivory I could find.
