Hello,

I'm about to purchase my first moisture meter. I've decided it will be one of Lignomat's pinless versions. I'm thinking of buying the meter that measures to 3/4". I will be mainly measuring 4/4 stock, although my current project is 8/4 Hard Maple. Here's my question: I've read that a pinless meter can be used on stock thinner than its intended range by holding the board in the air while using the meter(to prevent it from reading materials that would otherwise be below it.) Does anyone know how true this is? Lignomat does make a dual depth pinless meter(1/4" and 3/4" in one.) It is, however, a bit more expensive. It's worth it if it's a must, but if what I read regarding measuring thinner stock is true, it would be unnecessary. What are your opinions?

Thanks for your help,

David
