Hi
I am new to this forum, so hi to everyone.
Has anyone experience with the CMT Insert Shaper System?
Can you give me any help, I am concerned firstly on the safety of such a devise, also how well does it perform to regular shaper cutters?
Thanks
Paul

Can't really say anything about the CMT system but I have the Amana Tool Profile Pro system & I love it. I also picked up an extra steel head because I had no experience with the machined aluminum heads. The aluminum head actually works great & is way lighter & easier on the shaper. The system is awesome, set up is really fast, alignment is right on. I don't see how they could ever come out unless you shattered the insert by hitting some thing like a screw in the wood (but then you're going to be ducking carbide no matter what your using). They have hundreds of profiles or will custom grind to yours. I run loose knives also & really prefer the insert system.

Oh yea welcome aboard.

Paul,

I have the CMT system, it works great and is a good way to quickly build up a profile collection. Not as robust as carbide, but since I don't do any production work it is a very good value. You can also buy blanks to cut profiles yourself. I've also seen the Amana system and would be happy with either one.

Is this the CMT system that uses a table saw insert head & router bits??

Mark

No this is a cutter head that fits onto a Shaper & has interchangable knives.

Thanks to everyone.

I don’t know anything specifically about CMT insert tooling but I am familiar with the insert tool that Felder sells. Reliable sources tell me the Felder insert tooling is made my Leitz.

I been using insert tooling for about 5 years now and find it to work very well, quality of cut and safety has never been a concern. Like any tooling you need to run it with in the RPM range it was designed for. If you do that I don’t think you will have any safety problems with the insert tooling.

I really like being able to change the cutters when they become dull or if I chip one and not having to mail the head and cutter out of state to be sharpened.
I see more and more well known reputable companies are coming out with more insert tooling and I can’t believe they would be selling un-safe products.

Here’s my small collection on inset tooling.
