View Full Version : GF seal o cell tacky

Those that use seal o cell regulary have you had any problem with it remaining tacky on maple? I sealed it with shellac and walnut oil friction polish (wax free) first then applied the seal o cell. My guess is the walnut oil is keeping it from drying. For those that are gonna ask why I did that well I kinda changed plans half way through the finish. So shouold I just sand and start over with seal o cell then urathane. I should mention it is a highly figured maple bowl. Thanks

Seal-a-cell is a thinned oil/varnish blend, walnut oil is a non drying oil. You essentially added a non drying oil to an oil/varnish blend which was then applied to sealed wood. Oil/varnish blends are not for stained (because the stain seals the wood) or sealed wood.

Mineral spirits and a lot of clean rags will clean it. Light scuff sand with about 220 to get the Arm-r-seal (poly) to stick.
