This is one of the pieces that did not sell at the holiday fair last week. I'm kinda glad, I think I may just keep this one. It's 5" diameter and 4" tall with a 1-1/8" opening. Wall thickness is 1/8". There's a lot of nice spalting going on which I think looks cool. It's finished with 8 coats of Antique Oil and rubbed out with a 4000 grit Abralon pad.
Comments and critiques welcome. Thanks for looking

It sure has alot of movement going on, that's for sure. It always amazes me that some of the things that sell are not my favorite. heh heh Different strokes for different folks. I agree, keep it. You did a good job and it does speak to you.

Great piece of wood, and I really like the finish you have on this one. It will look good back at home - meant to be!

Nicely spalted. I like spheres. They must really be a challenge.

That wood has some amazing colors going on in it, and I love the HF, you guys do some great work here.

Rob, I have always had a sweet spot for the round forms and this one fits right in it ! The spalting is wonderful in this little gem, again spalting is near and dear to my heart also, there is just something about it that I can't get away from either.

To bad you will have to enjoy it at home for now, I do that and then someone sees it on the shelf and I am always willing to let most things go, but not all.

Nice job,

Jeff

I'm a sucker for anything with spalting on it...and that's a nice little orb.
I would be happy to put it on my shelf too, were it not to sell for its worth to you.

The spalting in this piece really sets it apart and your application of the spherical form is done very well. Good to hang onto this one

Thanks for all the kind comments. Sycamore seems to spalt easily. I have several pieces, in log form and in blank form, that have spalted just sitting on the floor in my shop. The orb shape took me quite a while to get right. With all the beautiful spalting lines, I was praying that I didn't blow it up hollowing it out.
Thanks again for comments.
