I finally got the cherry burl bowls finished. The finish really made the character pop as everyone said would happen in my previous post.

The first two pictures shows the burl with my chain saw. The second picture shows the natural place to cut the burl - I'll let the picture speak for itself.

The rest are pictures of one of the burl bowls finished. 9" dia x 2 1/2" deep. You can see the knot hole in the fifth picture. I call it level control.

The bowl sold already to one of the women at work. The contribution has been passed on already to Doug Thompson for a 1/2 V and 5/8 V bowl gouges.

The other bowl (not pictured yet) is for my parents for a Christmas present.

Rich, cherry burl has such a warmth to it - really looks nice! Good job on the finish, too. Glad you sold it, and so is Doug!!;)

Excellent job on the bowl Rich! Love the color!

Congrats on your new Thompson tools - especially the 5/8" V - which is my go-to bowl gouge! Love it!

Nice job on the burl bowl and congratulations on the sale Rich.

I just ordered a detail gouge from Doug which will be my first Thompson tool.

Rich, thanks for posting the picture of the log before you removed the burl. For some of us that are new to the game, it's useful to know what we are looking for!
Love the bowl too!

Is that what would be referred to as a "plumber's burl" where the uncut shot is?
Nice bowl and finish, very nice. Makes me antsy to go turn a piece I have.

Thanks for the compliments. I was amazed at the consistency of the burl. It was very solid compared to other burls I have seen.

Tim, that is what I was thinking but you put a good twist on it - plumber's burl.

Steve and Marc - she is going to let me bring it to the meeting on Tuesday, provided I dont have to stay over at the papermill.
