How do I find out where to attach each wire on the 220 V plug I need to install on the pig tail cord they provided. This is the style of plug I am dealing with Its a 6-20P but I can't find a diagram that tells me which one is hot

The black and white wires can go to either of the spade lugs, and the green wire will go to the round (ground) lug. As long as you get the green one on the right lug, the other two are interchangeable.

THanks Harlan, that's what I was concluding from the diagrams, since they only showed marked the ground. I wanted to be positively sure. Thank you for your help!

I am not sure why companies do that but they send you 220v pigtails with the same color internal wires as you find in 115v pigtails. (probably saves them money someplace) Anyway both the black wire and the white wire are "hot" The white wire would normally be red. It doesn't matter if black wire goes to the vertical blade or the horizontal blade they are both Hot with 115V giving you 115v+115v or 230V.

James, It doesn't really make any sense. But ya learn something new everyday I guess
