This is my first attempt at peppermills. These are 8" mills, Canarywood with a Danish Oil finish. My local expert liked this finish better than glossy and since I always listen to her.... They will be presents for my sons. Sorry for the sloppy photos, my little light tent was the best light available for photos. Any tips to do them better will be appreciated.

Mark, they're really nice looking! Never made any myself, and I've got a bit of canary wood laying around...thanks for the inspiration!

Those look really good, Mark. I've been meaning to do a few myself. Hope mine turn out just as nice.

This was posted in our East Texas Woodturners newsletter a couple of months ago - and it has helped me greatly:

Photographing Your Work
If you're like me, a large number of your turnings end up in
the possesion of friends and family members, leaving you
with ever-fading memories of what the pieces looked like.
The solution is to take a few good pictures of each piece
before it takes up its new residence. Unfortunately, what
little skill I have as a woodturner far exceeds my skill as a
photographer. I recently found a tutorial titled
"Photographing Your Work" on Ft. Worth woodturner
Neal Addy's website at http://www.nealaddy.org/node/16
While I am still a better woodturner than photographer, this
tutorial has helped me take better pictures of my work –
warts and all. – Editor

Those look great Mark. I like the look of the Canary wood. They each have a pleasing shape. They should make great gifts.

Mark, I think you did an excellent job with the shape and detailing - and, the canary wood really looks nice!

They look fine just the way they are. I'll have to find some of that canary wood!

Real nice shapes! That Canary wood is great for mills.

Wow, I really like your wood choice.
The wood character is featured nicely.
Now people will add just a little more pepper to re-align the grain.

You are all very kind.

Kelvin, I bookmarked the photo info. I know it is something I need to work on.

Brian, the wood came from a local store in Dallas, Wood World. I went in searching for something like a nice birds eye maple or something similar...saw this and knew I had to use it.

If I were making them to sell, I would put a stronger finish on them. My sons know about detergent/water on wooden bowls so these should be ok.

Thanks for looking and the nice words.
