I am thinking about replacing motor on jointer from 2 hp-3 ph to 5hp -1 ph.Do I need new switch for 1 ph or can I use old one 3 ph switch.

depends on the current draw on the motor, and the rating for the switch.

Does it have a magnetic starter? If yes, you will need to wire into the two leads that run the coil or transformer. If it has a thermal overload, this will need to be replaced to match the nameplate rating of the motor.
