My wife's friend heard that I do woodturning and said I should come get some wood from her property. Seems her husband likes cutting up wood as a hobby. So I show up and this is what I see (see photos). He says I can take whatever I want, (that's the gloat) and there are more piles around. Mostly Oak and Eucalyptus.

Here's the crazy part. He doesn't own a chainsaw. Cut's everything by hand with about a 14" saw. He does it purely for exercise, and enjoyment.

:eek::eek: So, what does one do with wood piles like that in So. Ca.?????? Here, it looks like a good stack of firewood (after culling the turning stock, of course!), but there - ???????

BTW, please let your friend know that I could use him here for a couple of weeks - lot of fence rows that need cleaning out and repaired!!:D He can get all the exercise he wants - and free meals!

Wow - that guy needs to start turning! That's a lot of wood! Hope you found some good stuff!

That looks like the best kind of friend to have. Hand him a chainsaw, point him at a tree you want, let him do all the hard work, and start turning :)

(I'm wondering how I can convince one of my friends that this would be a "fun" hobby for him to have :D)

Maybe he needs to be introduced to a spring pole, or treadle lathe.

Just curious, but what did he do with it before you took some? Some of those big pieces are pretty short and can be cut in two only so many more times.:)

I'd say he must be in pretty good shape! Wish I had some neighbors like that.

And his address is----. Too far from Texas, though. Just daydreaming. Max

Wow. Figure you'll make them at least one nice bow, leaving 1949 blanks to go...

I need a friend like that.

I think they make a medication for his problem... You should make sure that he never starts on that medication!:D

He probably has a resting heartbeat of about 20. Talk about something to relieve stress.

We have fire places here too John, it got all the way down to 50 last night !!!

I sent my friend a diagram on how to cut blanks for turning. I think he'll be a quick learner.

Tell him how cutting the logs end-grain would be better exercise, and oh yeah, could he remove the pith........ :D

I'd say you have hit the Mother Load. Now turn a few pieces for the lady of the house and you will secure an endless supply. Congrats!:)
