If you vector cut that design, wouldn't you just end up with a million little pieces?

:) deeHeh. The vector version is cleaner and scales up a lot better than the bitmap ones, but yeah, I set the line-width to 4 points and raster it.

Just vector at a low power... crisp lines, and doesn't cut all of the way through (unless you're using tissue paper :p).

Shameless Plug

Order the SawMill Creek Archives DVD volume one, you will get over 87,000 file attachments from the first 6.5 years.

In January 2011 we will be offering volume two that covers the last 15 months which may have almost as many files as volume one.

End of Shameless Plug :)

Keith, I look forward to getting Volume II. There is a lot of "stuff" in Volume I.

Thanks for consolidating it all!

Oh come on Frank. Don't be such a spoil sport. Everyone has to do the Aztec calendar. It's a rite of passage for laser engravers.:p

That's ok Frank it's only good for one more year, oh that's the Mayan

Sorry Frank I guess it will live on in perpetuality.

Frank, being as creative as you are it may be interesting for you to create
a Frank's calander!

One that would stretch the limits of the laser's possibilities. Yours could be the "New Standard" demo file!:D

All in favor say AYE!

The Aztec Cal. is to the New Laser Owner, as the "Hello World" Line is to the new programmer :D

Yes, but have you done "Hello world!" on your laser?

It was the first thing I did on an old scrap of wood, I guess it comes from my programing background. Never did the Aztec Calendar.

Actually the 'very' first thing I did was the Iconic Marilyn Monroe photograph taken over the sidewalk grate:p.. I dated it, and put in on the wall over the entrance to my work area from the customer area. It was a greyscale, engraved into a piece of scrap wood from an old drawer. It was a complete shot-in-the-dark, and it came out looking pretty good, even by the current standards I have set for myself. I can't say that about my first rotary engraving test on some gray rowmark material:eek:. I still have the little piece of plastic that I engraved in the showroom of the supplier as a test of my first engraving pantograph before I bought it, and believe me, it was a mess. I also have my first vulcanized rubber stamp, and the first business card I ever made on my first hot stamping machine. They have all been sitting in a bench top drawer for the last 22 years marked 'least I forget'.. It helps me stay 'humble'

But .. but Frank! Have you seen it yet in cold cast bronze? :D

I'm at 1:17:30 right now, and i'm about 3.5" into it.
(30w, 8 speed, various powers because of the 3D)

Looks like about 4 hours for the first pass, then another hour to make
a deep ring around the image to serve as a mold wall.

Should be interesting when it's done, but I wonder if it will be worth the time!
