I normally turn a recess in the base and grab the bowl in expanding mode. Then just leave the recess for the base, but I used a tenion on my first natural edge bowl. I needed a jam chuck. I was playing with an old nerf ball and noticed how firm it was under a little pressure. After cutting the ball in half and mounting it to a plywood face plate I owe the grandsons a new ball.

Not sure what wood this is. It is from a tree that blew down in the woods behind our house. No bark or leaves at this time. I think it might be elm.
